Symptom: Print screen (Grid Screen, layout screen) has no information in the text boxes or almost any non hardware issue with Adventures In Names, Adventures In Art -Basic.  If you only have a blank screen after exiting the system then see Blank Screen.

Cause: Databases were not closed properly.  Normally this happens in one of three ways:
  • System was closed improperly by using the Windows close button (this is the X in the upper right of the window). To properly close the system you MUST use Exit from the File menu, from the "Choose a Category" screen.  To get to the "Choose a Category" screen from anywhere in the system, select NEW from the File menu.
  • Task switching, this normally happens when employees are playing solitaire or other activities with another open program, during slow times.  The system locks up and they re-boot the computer.
  • Shutting off the computer before the application has fully exited.  Version 0.4 does all it's maintenance each time it exits.  depending on the speed of your computer this can take from 2 to 5 min.  If the user thinks the computer is locked or gets impatient and turns it off the data bases are damaged.
Remedy: Replacement of the data bases must be made from the safety backups on the Hard drive.  These backups are is the following folders.
  • \NAME98\DBBACK - has the files in their original form from the CD
  • \NAME98\DBSAFE - has any new templates, names, poems, fixes, or plugins you may have added
HOW TO FIX IT:

  7. Hold down CTRL key and press C (CTRL-C), this copies all highlighted files, you see nothing happen.
  8. Click BACK ARROW button, the Address line should now say C:\Name98
  9. Hold down CTRL key and press V (CTRL-V), this pastes all data files into C:\Name98
  10. It says the file already exists, you answer to Overwrite All
  11. When this is complete close the windows and start the Adventures In Names program. Everything should be fixed.
If problem continues do all steps again except in step 5 use the folder DBBACK

DBSAFE has any new templates you've made

DBBACK has data as it came off the CD.
